Best Resources For Learning About Homeopathy

Note: This is an old post, originally shared in 2015-2019

Question: I always see you sharing your homeopathy success stories and I want to learn more, but I have no idea where to start. What do you recommend for a complete beginner?

Answer:

Start Reading

Here are my two favorite books.

  • Practical Homeopathy (Vinton McCabe): Anytime I need to find a remedy, this is my go-to book. If you only buy one, buy this one! You can get a pretty good understanding of homeopathy just by reading the first few chapters, and then once you figure out how the book works, you can use your (or your child's) symptoms to find the right remedy.

  • The Complete Homeopathy Handbook (Miranda Castro): This is the book recommended in Mary’s Facebook group (mentioned below). It was my first homeopathy book and I still sometimes use it alongside Practical Homeopathy — but it’s not my first choice.

  • Impossible Cure: The Promise of Homeopathy (Amy Lansky): I could not put this book down!

"The Promise of Homeopathy provides an in-depth and exciting account of the history, philosophy, and experience of homeopathic medicine. At the core of Impossible Cure is the amazing story of how the author's son was cured of autism with homeopathy. It also includes dozens of other testimonials of homeopathic cure, for a variety of physical, mental, and emotional conditions."

Get A Homeopathy Kit

We've all seen the little blue Boiron tubes at the store. I have and use dozens of these! However, if you’re just starting to build your collection of remedies, I actually recommend buying this kit instead. It's a much better value and the pillules are lactose free, made from non-GMO beet. This deluxe kit contains 36 of the most popular remedies. It has most everything you'll need for common illnesses, injuries, etc. We are big fans of Homeopathy World -- we even have the childbirth and first aid kits.

If you want to have even more remedies on hand, this 50 Remedy Kit from Washington Homeopathic is a great option. They also have a 100 Remedy Kit available directly from their website, but it is often sold out. (Putting this one on my wish list!)

Join These Facebook Groups

Mary's Homeopathy Study Group has almost 21,000 members and it is such a great education resource. Homeopath Mary Aspinwall posts videos covering things from detox to breastfeeding to child illness. The group also has an extensive files section, and you can use the search function to find other people who have just gone through what you're going through. For example, when I had mastitis, I searched the group and found several posts about it. This helped me find the right remedy very quickly.

Before you interact, make sure to watch the Pinned Post Video. There are people ready and willing to help you find a remedy that matches your symptoms, but you have to format your post a certain way. They use something called "CLAMS" to thoroughly describe the symptom picture.

Mary also offers a FREE Newbie Course online. She uses videos, quizzes and articles to help you learn the basics, and she also covers some of the most popular remedies for families.

Another Facebook group to join is Ask a Homeopath 247. There is always a homeopath on duty answering questions and they even offer acute consultations for around $50.

Listening Links

I’m going to gather my favorite podcasts and YouTube videos here, for those of you who prefer to listen as opposed to read. For now, here’s a great intro to Homeopathy. You can find that podcast episode in most podcast apps, for easier listening!
